Visit to Dool Elementary at Calexico, CA
Following the invitation of Dool counselor, Sammy Gutierrez, Prof. Vazquez Mena has visited Dool elementary to talk about nanotechnology, science and to perform science experiments for the students. Calexico has a very enthusiastic community and their students are very enthusiastic about science and technology.
Comienza con un Sueño 2017: Prof. Vazquez Mena has been in the organizing committee and a speaker of Comienza promoting the access to UCSD of students from Hispanic communities in San Diego.
Bridges to Education: Prof. Vazquez Mena is the faculty coordinator of Bridges to Education, supporting U.S. students at the San Diego - Tijuana border whose parents have been deported and that aim to attend university. In partnership with Border Angels, this program provides mentoring, information ressources, guidance for application and financial aid. bridges.ucsd.edu
Border Angels: We also participate in the Water Drop activities of Border Angels, bringing water, food and first aid supplies at the border zone between California and Baja California. A bottle of water can make the difference between life and death by dehydration for people walking in the desert. Click here to participate
